Prof. Samia Al-Amoudi Participates in the Health Empowerment & Health Rights for Breast Cancer in the Faculty of Dentistry

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Abdul Ghani bin Ibrahim Meera, the “Health Empowerment & Health Rights for Breast Cancer" event was launched. The Founder and Head of the First Unit for Health Empowerment and Health Rights at King Abdulaziz University, Prof. Samia Al-Amoudi and member of the unit Dr. Souzan AlKafy on Monday, 2/3/1439 H – 20th November 2017 at the Main Hall of the University Hospital Auditorium.

Prof. Samia Al-Amoudi spoke about health empowerment and knowledge of regulations and legislations. She said that women have the right to sign for all of their medical and surgical treatments, which is based on the fatwa issued by the Supreme Council of Ulema in 1404. The Ministry of Health issued a document on the rights of patients in 2006; all practitioners should know and are available in the Ministry's website.

She also mentioned that the great historic decision is Supreme Decree No. 33322 issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in May 2017, which stipulates that women can be provided with services without the need for the consent of the guardian and at the top of these health rights.

Dr. Souzan AlKafy, Consultant of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Hospital, presented her participation in the event. She talked about the percentage of breast cancer, its causes and its main symptoms, and then explained the mechanisms of early examination, which is self-examination of the breast, examination of the doctor and mammogram examination for those aged 40 and over.

The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry and the Director of the Dental Hospital at the University, Dr. Ayman Al-Dharab said in a speech at the event that the Faculty and Dental Hospital were honored to present this event, which aims to raise awareness and educate all employees and staff of the College and the hospital about the issue of breast cancer.
