Launching of the Counseling Clinic of Reproductive Health Rights for Cancer Patients

Sheikh Mohammed Hussien Al-Amoudi Center of Excellence in Breast Cancer in cooperation with the Health Empowerment and Health Rights Unit launched the first medical project to raise awareness of the rights of cancer patients according to an integrated strategy the "Counseling Clinic of Reproductive Health Rights for Cancer Patients" in conjunction with the World Cancer Day and the Third Gulf Campaign for Cancer on February 4, 2018.

 

HE Prof. Samia Al Amoudi said that the project was launched with the generous approval of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Mahmoud Shaheen Al-Ahwal, and is supervised by a team of consultants in the field of oncology, fertility and infertility medicine. The importance of the project is that it has been observed that some patients suffer from loss of fertility and ability to reproduce after the end of treatment. Hence, the importance of health empowerment for patients is to know the effect of treatments on fertility and treatment before they miss the opportunity. It is also important to convert oncologists to cases before starting chemotherapy treatment.

The launch of this project follows the opening of the clinic for the reproductive health rights of cancer patients and in the presence of a group of consultants in this field. It is a free clinic that begins with the reception of cancer patients of both sexes of all ages. Patients are referred from their doctors or patients seeking counseling. Specializing in the impact of cancer treatments, especially chemotherapy on fertility and the opportunity to reproduce in the future.

The clinic also provides consultations on the impact of cancer on pregnancy and discuss appropriate contraceptives, how to solve the solutions available to save fertility and treatment alternatives and patients are referred to specialists in infertility and fertility clinic to develop the treatment plan available before the start of chemotherapy or radiation.
