As part of the cooperation between the Department of Education in Jeddah and KAU, represented by Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi Center for Excellence in Breast Cancer, Dr. Samia Al-Amoudi, consultant on women and childbirth and executive manager of the center, was invited to the department to participate in health awareness programs.
Her participation is part of the Heartbeat program, which targets female students at some intermediate and high schools in Jeddah and their mothers. The event took place at the theater of Modern Education Schools on Tuesday, 1 March 2011.
Dr. Samia gave a lecture about girls who behave live boys, the causes of their behavior and their health, social and psychological impact. She also highlighted the role of their families, their schools and the society, as well as the media, in combating their deviant behavior.
Parents and social councilors at the school attended the meeting. They discussed the role of the family and its impact on the behavior of the children, and the role of the mother in particular in mending the behavior of her daughters and bolstering adherence to religion among boys and girls.
They also discussed the causes of the phenomenon, its health and religious impact and ways to fight it. Some mothers told their stories, and the role of family supervision and self-awareness was stressed.
Books about breast cancer, such as Dr. Samia’s Break the Silence, were given away with brochures on self-diagnosis and pink ribbons.
At the end of the visit, the supervisor of religious guidance at the school thanked Dr. Samia for her contribution to awareness in every field. In turn, Dr. Samia thanked the school for their generous hospitality.
