The Launch of Breast Cancer Course in Sign Language

Coinciding with the Gulf campaign week to raise awareness of cancer and the 2017 World Cancer Day February 4, 2017 supported by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Mahmoud Shahin Al-Ahwal. Sheikh Mohammed Hussien Al-Amoudi Center of Excellence in Breast Cancer and Health Empowerment and Health Rights Unit held a course in sign language with 12 hours Continuing Medical Education as accredited by SCFHS held on February 4 - 5, 2017.
The course included lectures attended by Prof. Samia Al-Amoudi, Dr. Abdullah Baothman, Dr. Souzan Al Kafy and workshops to teach sign language and its practical medical terminology by Faiza Natto, President of Deaf Ladies Club in Jeddah and an expert in sign language. The session targeted the healthcare providers and medical students from Colleges all has to do with dealing with patients.
Prof. Al-Amoudi said the idea came after a deaf & mute patient got breast cancer and she was crying not because of the cancer but because of the inability to communicate with the doctor.
In conclusion, Prof. Mahmoud Shahin Al-Ahwal gave a word of thanks to all the participants in this session and handed over certificates and souvenir pictures were taken with them.
