New Achievement Attained by Saudi Woman in the Era of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud :
Dr. Samia Al-Amoudi, the Associate Professor at King Abdulaziz University (KAU) has become the first GCC woman to win a prestigious seat in the Union for the International Cancer Control’s (UICC) Board of Directors in Geneva. She was selected from a pool of more than 80 candidates during a meeting held by UICC on August 26th, 2012 in the city of Montreal, Canada.
The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is considered the largest international organization in this area and includes more than 700 specialized associations. With its headquarters in Geneva, UICC is uniquely positioned to take expert opinion and views of the cancer community to the global stage with official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO) and special ECOSOC (UN Economic and Social Council).
Dr. Samia Al-Amoudi who was awarded in 2007 by U.S. Department Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the First International Women of Courage Award in recognition of her Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign and for sharing her personal battle with breast cancer to raise awareness across the Kingdom and throughout the Middle East.
She is the CEO of Sheikh Mohammed Hussien Al-Amoudi Center of Excellence in Breast Cancer and Chairwoman of the Breast Cancer Research Scientific Chair & Chair of Women Health Empowerment in King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah and she received messages of appreciation from His Excellency the President of the University, Prof. Osama Bin Sadiq Tayeb saying that she got a new honor for the Kingdom and University (KAU). Dr. Samia said that this achievement is a strong evidence on the women’s development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and reflects the ongoing support of Saudi women by the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. She added that this is a new responsibility to continue her mission to spread cancer awareness in the Kingdom and globally for a tomorrow free of cancer for my daughter and daughters in my country and all women of the world.
