abou the centerThe center became a reality thanks to the approval of Mr. Osama Tayyeb, the head of King Abdulaziz University, and to the generous contribution of Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi, the renowned businessman who knows that the truest form of investment is that made with God, and the hard work of Dr. Samia Al-Amoudi, the prominent international activist and breast cancer survivor.
The project was launched in 4 July 2010. The idea behind the Center of  Excellence in Breast Cancer is to establish a new concept of healthcare for women in our country, focusing on an extremely vital issue – breast cancer. With her work as a physician, and her suffering as a breast cancer patient and subsequent work as an activist, Dr. Samia built a broader vision of the needs of breast cancer patients.
Through her visits to such international centers as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (later known as the Susan G. Komen for the Cure), M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, The Johns Hopkins Center, Harvard University and many others, she realized that there were considerable deficiencies in the healthcare culture in the Kingdom in general and the concept of healthcare for breast cancer patients in particular, despite the fact that there is no shortage in qualified personnel and advanced technology.
Taking all this into consideration, she began to look more closely at these deficiencies to try to find ways to fulfill the needs of her patients given the available level of healthcare services, and to achieve a quantum leap in the quality of health support services, without which healthcare as a whole cannot be complete. Hence, the center, which aims to operate according to world-class standards, came into being.
We wish to God Almighty to grant us success in reshaping women’s healthcare in the Kingdom, so as to achieve the ultimate goal of “towards world-class healthcare.”
