Document Language : English
Abstract : The present investigation shows the degenerative effects of plasil "metoclopramide" which is an antiemetic drug, on the alimentary canal of 10-day chick embryos .0.2 or 0.4 mg of this drug was injected after 24, 48 or 72 hours of incubation in groups of fifty eggs of Arbor Acre strain. These groups of eggs together with control groups, injected with an equivalent amount of sterilized distilled water, were examined after 10 days total incubation period. The live embryos were serially sectioned, stained, processed and microscopically examined to detect any deviation in the tissues of the alimentary. It was found that plasil had profound histopathological effects in the proventriculus, gizzard and intestine of the treated embryos that increase with the increase of the give dose, and the younger the embryos at the time of injection. The diameter of these organs and their lumen decreased than the normal. The lining epithelia, the lamina propria, the muscularis, and the serous membranes degenerated. The tubular glands present in the proventriculus decreased greatly in number and size and their columnar epithelium deteriorated. The mesenteries surrounding the alimentary canal together with the contained blood vessels, also, showed signs of atrophy, degeneration and framenation.
